Join the Mountain Rec team, located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains of Colorado just 30 minutes west of world-class skiing in Vail!

Mountain Recreation’s three large facilities provide Eagle County residents with activities, after-school programs, sports leagues, and tons of other fun events every day. With swimming pools, an ice rink, an indoor track, skate parks, fitness centers, climbing walls, playgrounds, pavilions, and acres upon acres of athletic fields, Mountain Rec’s scale and variety help everyone discover their own version of healthy and happy.

The Aquatics Supervisor is a leadership position in the Division of Recreation Programming; the position oversees recreation and aquatic facility management, aquatic staff supervision, aquatic budgets, and aquatic programming for all Mountain Recreation's facilities. Pools managed by this position include Gypsum Recreation Center (indoor), Eagle Pool and Ice Rink (summer outdoor), and Gypsum Creek Pool (summer outdoor). The Aquatics Supervisor achieves goals through supervision of a large team of seasonal, part-time, and full-time aquatics staff.

Salary: Full Time; $61,343 - $76,679 DOE; Exempt; Additional Bilingual Incentive Pay offered for $1/hr ($2080/year)

Examples of Duties:

  • Hires, trains and schedules part-time staff, with teamwork and efficiency as primary goals; reviews and evaluates to maximize program and customer service quality and staff productivity. Conducts disciplinary issues with staff as necessary.
  • Create programs and experiences for our diverse community by removing barriers and obstacles so everyone in our community can live a healthy and happy life. Supervises, and conducts aquatic programs to achieve departmental and community service goals as assigned; Collects data on aquatic programs for review
  • Works with facilities team to monitor pool mechanical systems and equipment, including backwashing, trouble-shooting, pre-season opening of the outdoor aquatics facilities and winterization at the end of the season.
  • Assists with the development of the aquatics budget in assigned areas; Monitors program revenues and expenditures to remain within budget.
  • Ensures safety of patrons in the aquatics areas. Provides for the safety of participants and staff, including implementing risk management practices. Keep water balance in accordance with Colorado Sate Health Department and Recreation District guidelines.
  • Responds to emergency situations as a certified American Red Cross Lifeguard; lead staff responses to emergency situations. This position may require on duty lifeguard shifts.
  • Assists with High Country Swim League operations including hosting swim meets and supervising swim coaches.
  • Coordinates and teaches American Red Cross Group and Private Swim lessons, delegating to part-time staff first, teaching in the water to supplement part-time staff availability.
  • Provides exemplary customer service to internal and external guests by investigating and acting upon requests, suggestions and complaints concerning recreation services and programs.
  • Communicates with program participants and instructors via telephone or email about class cancellations, program changes, added classes, processing refunds, receiving, and replying to all correspondence.
  • Inputs online information for registration in registration software. Assists with specific marketing and promotion efforts for programs in coordination with the Marketing and Communications Manager.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Requirements

Required Knowledge & Skills:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation or related field; OR
  2. Three years of progressive work experience in direct leadership and supervision of recreation programs, specifically as related to aquatics; OR
  3. Any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and ability to perform the above described duties.
  4. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred

Certifications:

  1. American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification required
  2. American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification preferred
  3. American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) preferred
  4. CPO/AFO preferred

Competencies:

  • Demonstrated ability to organize, direct, and motivate employees performing duties in either lifeguarding, swim program instruction or building and equipment maintenance.
  • Familiar with pool mechanical operations, pool chemical safety and dosing etc.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, organized groups and the general public.
  • Ability to make quick decisions and resolve conflicts, making good decisions about when to involve law enforcement.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and orally and in stressful situations
  • Knowledge of facilities management, recreation planning, programming and customer service.
  • Communicate in English, Ability to also speak Spanish is preferred.

Required Knowledge & Skills:

Considerable knowledge of: theory, development, practices, implementation, and evaluation in assigned program area; age and activity appropriate program planning; recreation program risk management; facilities and equipment required in assigned program area.

Skills and ability: to effectively communicate in both verbal and written form; exercise independent initiative, judgment, and decision making; demonstrate strong organizational, leadership, planning and problem solving skills; effectively supervise and motivate staff; work well with a wide variety of people including children, youth, and adults; actively participate in activities provided by program area; establish and maintain positive, respectful, and cooperative relationships with all contacts; lift, restrain, and run after participants; lift equipment and supplies; work cooperatively with others and create a positive, construction relationship with staff and the general public; proficient in the use of office equipment including computers.
