Company Overview

Western Eagle County Metro Recreation District ( WECMRD ) serves the communities of Edwards, Eagle, Gypsum and Dotsero in the western portion of Eagle County, Colorado. WECMRD facilities, programs and services are used by the residents who work primarily in the tourist service and support economy for Vail, Beaver Creek and Arrowhead ski resorts. Situated in the heart of Colorado amidst towering mountains and beautiful valleys, WECMRD seeks to provide affordable and innovative recreational services, programs, events and facilities for our residents.

WECMRD is renowned for its creative and groundbreaking programs and facilities including the: Gypsum Recreation Center, the WECMRD Field House - Edwards and the Eagle Pool & Ice Rink - each a state of the art facility in our rural, mountain communities. WECMRD created the "Anti Gravity Center", a unique aerials training facility, brought Roller Derby to the western slope of Colorado and became only the 2nd public recreation agency in the nation to "own" a semi-professional indoor soccer team. But, more importantly, WECMRD is a leader in delivering youth and adult programs at extremely affordable fees, including a policy of never denying a child access to any program due to financial difficulties.

Company History

WECMRD was formed in 1980, for the purpose of building a swimming pool. In the years following that event, WECMRD has grown to add over $30 million in new recreation facilities in just the past 10 years. A special recreation district formed under Title 32 of the State of Colorado Special District Authorization, WECMRD is a quasi-governmental agency with a 5 member elected Board of Directors.
