Lincoln Hills Cares
Company Overview
Lincoln Hills Cares develops the next generation of young leaders through outdoor education and recreation, cultural history exploration and workforce advancement. Our programs empower youth who may not otherwise have the opportunity due to economic, social or family circumstances.
Lincoln Hills Cares is a coalition of public charities that build community and support the environment through outdoor education and recreation, environmental and cultural history connections, and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) education.
We operate at Historic Lincoln Hills, a former African American resort founded in 1922.
Company History
The history of Lincoln Hills began in 1922 when the Lincoln Hills Development Company (LHDC) was formed by Denverites E.C. Regnier and Roger Ewalt, local entrepreneurs who sought to build a resort in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado for middle class African-Americans. At the time of its founding, Lincoln Hills was the only vacation resort west of the Mississippi River catering to African-Americans. At that time, only three other resorts in the United States – Oak Bluffs on Martha’s Vineyard, MA, Idlewild in MI and American Beach on Ameila Island in FL also catered to African-Americans.
Founded in 2010, LHC strives to carry on the rich culture and history associated with Lincoln Hills and the Outdoors. Through our Youth Outdoor Education Programs, Pathways, TeamWorks and revived Nizhoni Equestrian Program we are able to continually reconnect with the communities originally associated with Lincoln Hills. The culture and passion of Lincoln Hills is as much alive today as it was in the early 1920s.
Notable Accomplishments / Recognition
To date, LHC has served over 103,000 youth, facilitated more than 10,000 hours of curriculum and partnered with over 50 community organizations.
