SBSRD owns and manages 2,300 acres of open space, 180 acres of park space, has built and/or maintains over 140 miles of trails, and works with Summit County and state and local organizations on planning and conservation issues. SBSRD also operates an 83,000 square foot indoor field house with fitness classes, running track, turf field, gymnasiums, weight rooms and an outdoor lap pool.
Additionally, the District manages bike and skate parks, groomed cross-country trails, hiking trails, sports fields, tennis courts, pickelball courts, community areas and dog parks. And it leads popular recreation programs, camps and community events that have grown without pause over the last decade to serve the residents in the area.
SBSRD’s current operating budget is $8,089,350, and has in place a capital project budget of $10.6 Million. SBSRD employs 33 full time employees and up to an additional 125 part-time and seasonal employees during peak times.
Company History
Basin Recreation is a Special Service District created by Summit County and is located in the unincorporated area of Park City, Utah. The Snyderville Basin area has a population of approximately 23,000 people and is conveniently located 24 miles from Salt Lake City in Park City, Utah. At an elevation of 7,000 feet, this mountainous area has earned its reputation as a recreation paradise, an upscale getaway, and a very desirable place to live.
The area is home to many residential neighborhoods, vacation properties, and retail stores. It boasts its proximity to a year round resort town that caters to people seeking recreation and a superior quality of life. The community features two world-class ski areas, several golf courses, hiking and mountain biking trails, and nearby reservoirs for boating and fishing. In 2002, Park City was a venue for the Winter Olympic Games, and in 2013 it was chosen as the Outside Magazine Best Town.
The area offers an urban lifestyle in a rural setting and takes pride in its highly educated and affluent population. Snyderville Basin is a part of the outstanding Park City School District, which offers one high school, two middle schools, and four elementary schools, with nearly 4,800 students enrolled.
