Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Conduct walk-throughs of fitness areas and studios to help ensure safety, cleanliness, and proper equipment functionality.
- Provide excellent customer service by assisting participants, addressing concerns, and ensuring positive experiences.
- Support the implementation and delivery of the existing group fitness schedule, ensuring classes are well-coordinated and meet participant needs.
- Apply the Department’s Recreation Programming Plan to identify, develop, and evaluate fitness offerings, and make recommendations for continual improvement based on community feedback, industry trends, and participation data.
- Assist with assigning and scheduling personal training sessions and maintain accurate records of client participation.
- Serve as the Fitness/Wellness Division representative on the Safety Committee.
- Collaborate with marketing staff to produce promotional content, including Rec Guide, flyers, social media posts, and outreach efforts.
- Develop and lead group fitness classes and/or personal training sessions, ensuring instruction is safe, engaging, and adapted to participant needs.
- Educate, motivate, and guide participants in safe and effective exercise techniques.
- Maintain accurate attendance, training, and program records.
- Back-up to group fitness instructors and fills in as the fitness instructor as needed, sometimes on short-notice
- This position may be subject to work flexible hours, as needed, to help cover/fill/coordinate classes
- This position may be subject to work weekends, nights, and/or holidays
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands:
- Occasional physical work lifting no more than 10 pounds
- Occasional lifting, carrying, walking and standing
- Occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stop, kneel, crouch or crawl
- Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate personal computer and office equipment
- Vision for reading, recording and interpreting information
- Speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens
Work Environment:
- Works primarily in a clean, comfortable environment
Equipment Used:
- This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment
Must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check prior to commencing employment.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Education: High School Diploma or GED; Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Recreation, or a related field preferred.
Experience: One (1) year of experience in fitness instruction, personal training, or related recreation programming; an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Licenses and/or Certifications Required:
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire).
- At least one (1) nationally recognized certification in group fitness and/or personal training (ACE, AFAA, ACSM, NASM, NSCA, etc.).
- A Valid Colorado Driver’s License
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of exercise science, health, and wellness principles.
- Skills in utilizing Microsoft Office tools and Adobe
- Knowledge in recreation point of sale and registration systems a plus
- Knowledge of a wide range of fitness formats (e.g., yoga, Zumba, strength, senior fitness, aquatic fitness) and understanding of how each contributes to meeting diverse community needs and maintaining a balanced, complementary program schedule.
- Ability to safely demonstrate and instruct proper use of fitness equipment and exercises.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with diverse populations.
- Ability to adapt instruction to various fitness levels, ages, and abilities.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in scheduling, record keeping, and reporting.
- Knowledge of group fitness instruction and/or personal training methods.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also independently managing responsibilities.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, support staff and other departments/agencies position interacts with.
- Ability to physically perform fitness instruction and demonstrate class skills/moves
