Description
As the Recreation Facility Maintenance Supervisor, you will oversee the maintenance and repair of three Parks and Recreation facilities — the Recreation Center, Chapman Hill, and Durango Gymnastics. You will recruit, train, and support a team of maintenance and custodial staff, guide facility budgets, and develop maintenance and repair schedules that keep these community spaces safe, welcoming, and well cared for. This is a leadership role that combines people management, facility operations, and hands-on technical expertise.
What You’ll Do in This Role:
- Lead, direct, and support the maintenance team by assigning work, recruiting and training staff, monitoring performance, and contributing to development.
- Manage facility maintenance operations, including preparing and recommending operating and capital budgets, overseeing department purchasing, and managing supply inventory.
- Plan, schedule, and perform preventative maintenance on complex mechanical systems, including HVAC, boilers, pumps, and aquatics equipment to meet safety and code requirements.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair failures across all facility systems and mechanical equipment.
- Perform specialized trades work including plumbing (up to 10-inch PVC and 3-inch copper lines), electrical (up to 480 volts), carpentry, locksmithing, painting, welding, and tile work.
- Oversee and perform maintenance and repair of commercial fitness equipment.
- Coordinate and direct construction projects from initial design through completion.
- Operate and oversee equipment for snow removal and grounds maintenance, including landscaping, irrigation, and pest control.
- Respond to emergency maintenance needs outside of regular business hours when required.
Requirements
You Have:
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent (required).
- An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation Management, Facility Management, Construction Management, Building or Mechanical Systems, Public Administration, or a related field (preferred).
- Three years of progressively responsible experience in facility maintenance and supervision of employees.
You Will Succeed in This Role If You:
- Provide strong leadership by mentoring your team with a focus on safety, training, and professional growth.
- Bring expertise in troubleshooting and maintaining complex systems, including commercial aquatics, HVAC, and trades work such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and welding.
- Demonstrate sound judgment and strong problem-solving skills.
- Communicate clearly, collaborate well with others, and deliver professional service to the community and City employees.
- Balance operational administration, including budgeting, procurement, and project documentation, with hands-on repair work.
