POSITION SUMMARY
The Recreation Coordinator- Active Adults position will be responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and overseeing the older adult programs, including excursions, dining adventures, and hikes for the Malley Recreation Center. This includes developing and implementing programs, planning and coordinating events, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality recreational activities that meet the community's needs. This position involves the authority to make significant personnel decisions, including hiring and terminating. This position will ensure compliance with standards for staff that drive vehicles, providing current training and certifications to include the Commercial Drivers’ License and CPR/AED/First Aid. This position will research hikes, potentially at elevation and make decisions about appropriate difficulty levels in relation to patron comfort and ability levels. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with the older adult population and organizational skills, including a keen sense of time management and attention to detail.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Development and Management
- Design, implement, and evaluate a wide array of excursions, dining adventures, hikes, and special event programs that target the 55+ age range
- Manage revenue and expenses in assigned areas to align with departmental strategic and fiscal goals
- This position will utilize discretion and judgment to research hikes at elevation and make decisions pertaining to the appropriate difficulty level in relation to patron comfort and ability level.
- Maintain a schedule of required communication with the US Forest Service (USFS) and other appropriate agencies to secure necessary approvals and permits for group outdoor recreation participation
- Meet deadlines for USFS permit reporting
- Develop and monitor the program budget(s) in the assigned area
- Maintain and implement financial control and accountability
- Support the recreation software system and work closely with the Process Improvement Specialist on information and aspects of the recreation management software
- Initiate change to creatively address the needs of the public
- Assist the marketing team in driving customer engagement and awareness to increase facility and program participation
- Research and recommend the purchase of equipment and supplies for the assigned program area
- Ensure programs are inclusive and accessible to a diverse community
- Develop effective working relationships with volunteers, citizen groups, and other organizations
- Perform other duties as assigned and required
Staff Supervision
- Recruit, train, and supervise part-time staff and volunteers
- This position involves the authority to make significant personnel decisions, which include hiring and terminating employment.
- Create staff schedules and ensure adequate coverage for all programs and events
- Conduct consistent staff check-ins and provide ongoing support and professional development
Facility Management
- Work with the Senior Services Manager and Recreation Supervisor on recommendations for maintaining and scheduling facilities rooms for special events and assisting with guest service as needed
- Ensure that equipment is safe, available, and properly maintained
- Coordinate with maintenance and fleet service staff to promptly address any facility or vehicle issues
Community Engagement
- Foster relationships with local schools, community organizations, and agencies to encourage sustained partnerships
- Act as a liaison between patrons and the Recreation Center
- Address and resolve participant concerns and complaints promptly and professionally
Administrative Duties
- Manage program budgets, including purchasing supplies and maintaining payment schedules for excursions
- Communicate with various vendors and excursion agencies to book, finalize, and confirm trip details promptly
- Ensure a strong line of clear, concise communication to patrons detailing upcoming excursions
- Maintain communication with drivers, prepare schedules, and discuss pertinent needs
- Maintain accurate program participation records, financial transactions, and incident reports.
- Prepare reports and provide data to the Senior Services Manager as required

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Associate Degree: A bachelor’s degree in recreation administration or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in recreation program development, including budgeting and supervision
- Experience working with older adults preferred
- Required Driver’s License: Valid Colorado driver’s license and a clear or acceptable MVR
Skills and Abilities
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Strong administrative skills are needed to evaluate the functioning of the facility and programs.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and preferred experience in RecTrac software
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Preference given to those willing to operate a 14-passenger bus with a wheelchair lift in the rare occurrence this is necessary (training will be provided)
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Capability to stand, walk, and actively participate in activities for extended periods.
- Ability to bend down/get on floor to secure mobility devices like scooters and wheelchairs.
- Basic skills needed to complete set-up/takedown for programs and special events
- Willingness to work in various weather conditions as needed.
- Comfortable driving patrons in a 14-passengerbus with a wheelchair lift (training will be provided)
