POSITION SUMMARY
The Fitness Coordinator is responsible for the leadership, coordination, and daily management of fitness and wellness programs at the Englewood Recreation Center. This position oversees group fitness classes, personal training, fitness floor operations, and wellness events to support the health and well-being of the Englewood community. The Fitness Coordinator ensures high-quality programming, exceptional customer service, and safe, inclusive operations that reflect the City of Englewood's mission and values.

Direct Reports: Fitness Instructors, Personal Trainers
POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties
Plan, organize, and oversee comprehensive fitness and wellness programs including group exercise, personal training, specialty workshops, and community wellness events.
Recruit, train, schedule, and evaluate part-time fitness staff, instructors, and personal trainers to ensure quality instruction and service delivery.
Supervise daily fitness floor operations to maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all patrons.
Collaborate with Malley Recreation Center's Fitness Supervisor to ensure consistency amongst all fitness programming.
Monitor participation trends, program performance, and customer feedback to evaluate effectiveness and implement improvements.
Provide outstanding customer service by assisting members with equipment orientation, program information, and fitness assessments.
Develop and coordinate fitness challenges, wellness initiatives, and partnerships that encourage community engagement and participation.
Collaborate with Recreation staff and the City's Communications team to promote programs and services through marketing materials, social media, and digital communication.
Prepare and manage budgets for assigned areas, including purchasing, payroll, and revenue tracking in accordance with City policies.
Maintain and monitor fitness equipment inventory, warranties, and preventative maintenance schedules to ensure reliability and safety.
Ensure compliance with all City of Englewood policies, safety standards, and risk management procedures.
Teach group fitness classes or provide personal training as needed to support programming.
Participate in departmental and citywide events, initiatives, and committees that promote recreation and community wellness.
Stay current with industry trends, certifications, and best practices in fitness, wellness, and recreation management.

Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Strong knowledge of fitness, wellness, and exercise science principles.
Ability to lead, supervise, and motivate a diverse team of instructors and trainers.
Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
Knowledge of recreation operations, program development, and community engagement strategies.
Proficiency in recreation management software (RecTrac preferred), Microsoft Office, and scheduling tools.
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
Ability to manage budgets, purchasing, and financial accountability processes.
Skill in instructing a variety of group fitness formats and ensuring participant safety.
Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Recreation, or a related field preferred.
Two (2) years of experience in fitness programming or facility operations required.
One (1) year of supervisory or lead experience preferred.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification required within first 30 days of employment.
Nationally accredited Personal Trainer and/or Group Fitness Instructor certification (ACE, NASM, ACSM, NSCA, or equivalent) required.
Group Fitness certification preferred.
Must possess a valid Colorado driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is performed primarily at the Englewood Recreation Center with regular exposure to exercise equipment and active participants.
Requires standing, walking, and demonstrating exercises for extended periods.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and safely demonstrate fitness techniques.
May require evening, weekend, and holiday hours based on program and facility needs.
PAY RANGE
$52,444 - $78,666/Annual Salary
This is a full-time position.
