- Events and 55+ Program Specialist
Description
SUMMARY
Edgewater—a progressive city of about 5,000 nestled between Denver, Wheat Ridge, and Lakewood—is hiring a part-time Events & 55+ Program Specialist. In this customer-facing role, you’ll support 55+ trips and City events, supervise 55+ functions, and assist with program and volunteer registrations, trip and event planning, and on-site support at signature events such as the Annual Pancake Breakfast, Hometown Festival, and holiday activities.
The position averages 15–20 hours per week, requires weekday, evening, and weekend availability, and thrives in a team-oriented, community-focused environment. After training, you’ll work with minimal supervision while delivering high-quality programs and excellent service to older adults and the broader community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
General / Customer Service
- Demonstrates a high level of guest service and helps create an environment where guest service is a priority.
- Maintains a positive attitude, takes initiative, and works as part of a cohesive team with all staff members to ensure efficiency and camaraderie.
- Handles high-stress situations and difficult customers with tact and professionalism.
- Follows established guidelines concerning facility operations such as use policies, emergency procedures, guest supervision, and revenue receipt.
- Answers inquiries related to City events, recreation, and City services.
- Communicates effectively and efficiently with supervisors and the Communications & Events Coordinator.
- Upholds City and Department policies and procedures, as well as applicable laws.
- Participates in staff meetings and ongoing training opportunities.
- Maintains regular and punctual attendance.
55+ Trips / Events
- Facilitates 55+ trips and events to encourage socialization, relaxation, and fun.
- Serves as the main contact and transportation provider for 55+ trips/events; drives the City passenger van to designated destinations (training provided).
- Implements activities that accommodate those with additional needs.
- Becomes proficient in Civic Rec software.
- Performs facility setup and tear-down of programs, as needed.
- Assesses supply needs and inventory and makes recommendations for new purchases.
- Supervises participants and ensures safe use of facilities.
- Responds to accidents or incidents according to procedures; effectively handles emergency situations involving CPR and First Aid.
- Implements and maintains the Snow Angels Program with Public Works.
City Events
- Assists in planning, set-up, implementation, and tear-down of City and City-sponsored events.
- Manages community engagement booth responsibilities at local events to promote City services and programs.
- Assists in distribution of marketing materials and community outreach.
- Serves as the volunteer coordinator for events.
- Performs other duties as needed and as assigned by the Communications & Events Director or designee.

Weekly / Ongoing
- One weekday for meetings & planning: Tuesday or Wednesday, 10:00 AM–2:00 PM
- Fridays (Coffee & Conversation): 8:00 AM–12:00 PM
Monthly
- 2nd Thursday: 2:00–4:00 PM — 55+ Social Club
- 4th Thursday: Times vary — 55+ Trips

Requirements
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.
- Work Authorization: Must be at least 18 years of age and legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Background Check: Must successfully complete a pre-employment background check.
- Driving: Required to drive on City business; must hold and maintain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR). Must be able to safely operate a City passenger van (training provided). Compliance with the City’s Vehicle Use Policy is required.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Basic verbal and written English skills sufficient to communicate with the public and complete job-related documentation.
- Strong communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and interact with the public in a friendly, professional manner.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Must possess or be able to obtain First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Proficiency using a personal computer and Microsoft 365 (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams).
- Ability to use standard office equipment (e.g., telephone, calculator, photocopier, scanner).
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills to maintain effective working relationships with citizens, elected officials, department heads, employees, and volunteers.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
